Bear Mountain Inn
What a perfect spot in the
world to be…the foot of snow dropped on our way up made for a
spectacular winter wonderland. The sugar bear cottage is so
quaint and comfortable we just do not want to leave Just the
best here. Martins
This little place was exactly the
kind of honeymoon spot we were looking for. We loved hearing the
birds and the rain on the roof. We loved seeing the goats in
the morning. We loved our quiet walks in the woods and snuggling
with the cats. And of course we loved having the time to snuggle
with each other. We’ll certainly be back again. Tiffany
Thanks for a terrific
couple of days. We enjoyed every minute. Cooking dinner on the
deck overlooking the lake was wonderful…Fresh produce from your
garden made the dinner!! We’re sure every season here is
magic. Drew
For
those of you who took time to look at the thoughts, feeling and
memories that have been written in this book, We add our
adventure along with the rest, which looking back now to us was
the best.. My wife, who is the expert, for me this was a first,
we have stayed a lot of places from the best to the worst. From
the moment Lorraine had greeted us, we felt so good inside. She
showed us every inch of the inn which obviously filled her with
pride. Though every hall and doorway the place sparkles and
shined…we knew that we had found on of Maine’s true rare finds.
From the Fuzzy to the Grizzly you’re sure to be satisfied.
Especially when you include in your trip the most phenomenal
snowmobile ride. Thanks so much Lorraine Charlie
Valentines Weekend…Wow,
how romantic, the cottage, how special it is, the scenery, the
animals, the Inn, the breakfasts. Snowmobiling was great. Our
second time here at the Bear Mountain Inn and it will not be our
last. “The Perfect get-away" Braggs
We have
never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast before. This was the coziest,
cutest and most romantic place we have ever seen. We loved the
fireplace and all the special touches. The view of the lake and
mountains was breathtaking. A true getaway!! Debbie and Cliff
You have created some real magic here in the shadow of Hawk
Mountain. My memories include grilling salmon by a hearty wood
fire, overlooking the lake, classical music by starlight, my
daughter’s laughter as she recounts her summer at Camp Waziyatah.
It’s the understanding that these are the things that really
matter in life that I carry back to Washington DC.

Happiness is a journey not a
destination…so they say, however the Bear Mountain Inn is one
happy destination. We canoed, hiked, explored, relaxed, laughed,
and enjoyed. We have traveled all around the world from Cape Cod
Massachusetts to the Grand Canyon, from the cliffs of Ireland to
walking the great wall in China, we have been to the Eiffel
Tower in France and the hills of Vienna Australia, the beaches
of Hawaii to the gold coast of Australia...Spain, South Africa,
Budapest and Russia, our journeys are endless but nothing says
it more like coming home to New England than the Bear Mountain
Inn. Thanks you Sugar Bear Cottage for bringing us home once
again…

Thank you
for the most wonderful two days in the Sugar Bear Cottage. Don’t
change a thing-It is already perfect. Susan & Ken
Cozy and warm.
This is the best snuggle time we’ve had in years. Stress Level
Measured -0-. Thanks for everything. Richard and Kate
Such
Attention to detail…Little special touches really do make a
difference!!! Ground Coffee in the Coffee Grinder, soft toilet
paper, cookies in the cookie jar, charming, cozy, comfortable
and quiet peaceful place, just what we needed. Joanne & Rick
How lucky
we are to be in such a beautiful and wondrous place. Were so
thankful for this time away. Who would have thought in the
middle of November, we could be having 60 degree days and having the
pleasure of sitting on the swing and taking in the breathtaking
view of the lake, long walks and even trying our luck at
fishing. We are the only ones staying at the Inn right now and
being spoiled. I must say I feel a little selfish. I pray
everyone could have these special moments. We are so very lucky.
Thank You Jo and Dave
Snowflakes,
soft snowflakes gently are falling magically making everything
white. It has done nothing but snow since we arrived here for a
special get-away to re-connect and ski some great terrain. What
a beautiful place to have driven up to in the midst of our last
Nor’easter. Even more wonderful to have been greeted by our
spunky innkeeper…and then to have been given an option of this
special room due to weather canceling other guests plans.

Thanks
Lorraine for a great time at the Inn. This is our third visit
and it has been the best. Of all the rooms we have stayed in
this is our favorite. Maybe next time we will try the Great
Grizzly. See you Soon Beth and Matt
It
doesn’t get any better than this!!!! Now the plan is
to see when we can make it back!! What a
wonderful memory, Thanks for all the hospitality. Mary
Your many
talents and energies have created a most unique holiday home.
Your personality lends a most charming and enjoying tone to
everything here. Every contact with you is a pleasure. Many places are
nice…but it’s the people with a warm and gentle spirit
that transform it all into a lasting happy memory. So it is with
Bear Mountain Inn and You. Thanks you Lorraine for
everything. Helen and
Warren
This place
has lifted me up so high, I feel I’m floating in the sky I feel I’m
brimming over with love. I can’t stop thanking God above. The views
take my breath away, I never want to leave, I just want to stay. I feel like
an angel so light and carefree, For here I can really be me. I’m very
grateful to have this chance, and for days & months ahead I’ll
surely dance Thank
You Joyce
If only we
could stretch the days into longer hours, and cool, lazy nights
into the morning hours. We would send a letter to all our
friends telling them of our new address at Bear Mountain Inn. Warmest Regards. Louise and Brett
Dear
Lorraine, I do
believe in angels and they have been a part of my life. I didn’t
know why I was supposed to come here but now I know. You are the
angel which led me here. This was a fantastic weekend I have
every experienced. I thank you for everything and your great
hospitality!! Sincerely Michael
My one
night away from life’s hectic schedule and it was everything I
wanted it to be. You were born for this job. Everything was
perfect except now my husband wants to get another dog because
of yours. Thanks Susan & Peter
Many thanks
Lorraine. Great Job The food was delicious and the presentation
awesome. This is sure a really nice place to relax and have a
lot of fun enjoying nature. You really have nice taste and a
touch of class. I’m sure you could give Martha Stewart a run for
her money (although lately I think she has had one) Keep up the
good work…we will be back. Sue and Rich
My husband
calls me a travel snob. I love to travel to the nicest
destinations and stay in the finest hotels. I was searching the
internet to find a place close to Sunday River for some spring skiing and
happened upon the Bear Mountain Inn. The Inn was close to Bethel
and the prices were very reasonable. So here we are. As soon as
we walked through the door, I couldn’t help but smile. I feel
more comfort here than any “luxury hotel’ the best way to
describe this place is it feels like coming home only better.
The inn is beautiful and the food is great. There is no doubt we
will return. Thank You for sharing your Inn with us. Alana
This was
magnificent!! My husband and I were in much need of some good R
& R and we got it!! Thank you Lorraine and the wonderful girls
for our hospitality and friendliness. The inn, lake, room, and
grounds are so beautiful. We loved the kayak, canoe, and
paddleboat. My husband and I found some great trips and scenic
adventures. Maine is truly a natural wonder. The breakfasts were
delicious are presented so beautifully. Although a long way from
home we hope to make our way back here one day. With much
thanks Karla and Marc

God has
placed you in a natural treasure filled with history and
charming character. He is using your special gifts and talents
for a purpose. As you open the doors daily for your special
guest, May your light always shine with the warmth and heavenly
hospitality that you have given me. May all of your desires be
filled as you pour out yourself for others? In just three days
here, I feel like we are family. I call you friend. Thanks so
much for your way of life. I pray that you reap a very
successful crop. May the peace of God be with you and my God
grant all your prayers? For thy shall be filled at the Bear
Mountain Inn. Love Randy Your Friend
You have created a lovely
retreat in the mountains. All the pieces fit together to form a
place that both stimulates and relaxes. Even the rain is
beautiful!!! Beth
Many
firsts…The string quartet of the frogs in the lake shore, the
pink orchids hiding along the river. The brazen fluttering of
black and orange wings a Baltimore oriole at the pier. Huge
great blue heron and tiny blueberry butterfly drinking moisture
in the morning grass. The surprise of nature before the frenzy
of July’s ski boats and jet skis. Capsule of time eternal, you
have here in Bear Mt. God Preserve it
After
eating a delicious and beautiful breakfast, we headed for the
pond. It was my first time in a two person kayak. Pretty soon we
settled into a rhythm and our paddles no longer clacked
together. We glided quickly over the water with the sun pouring
warm rays over us. We took Lorraine's suggestions and bought
sandwiches and a beverage at the Village Tie Up and headed to
Hawk Mountain. The view is just grand….so many lakes and trees!! It was a lovely way
to each lunch. Returning to the Inn, we changed into swimsuits
and braved the chilly water. Next we warmed ourselves on the
chairs on the beach while reading romance novels. My eyes were
pulled periodically from the pages to the scene before me.
Sunlight sparkled on the water. Fished jumped to catch an
insect. Geese honked and splashed. And a Great Blue Heron leaped
into the air and flew up on the river toward the beaver
dam, what an awesome sight. When the sun burned too brightly,
the hammock beckoned. Ah, what a life!!! At dusk, we took the
canoe out onto the pond. Bear Mountain towered above us. Slowly,
the light left the sky and in its stead came the stars. First
one or two, then more and more until the sky was filled and the
Milky way opened above us. We floated on the still water and
marveled at the reflection for the stars on the surface. We
strained our eyes watching for the moving stars satellites and
found four or five. Every once in a while we caught a glimpse of
a shooting star. It was magical. So much else added to the
relaxing nature of the Inn. There are so many homey
touches…beach towels, soap dispensers, the convenience center
and candy dishes. I loved peeking in many of the rooms at all
the quilts. Our teddy bear was extremely huggable. Thank you
for a beautiful weekend!!! Mary
I have
never seen such beautiful play of colors and coordination.
Lorraine has done such a wonderful job with the interiors. The
innumerable little bears all over the house, placed so casually
but with so much care and thought. It’s amazing. I hope some day
I can be half as good as Lorraine. I look forward to coming back
soon. Sam
This room
was a great beginning to our new life together. The Inn means a
great deal to us, and hopefully we will come back for our 50th
wedding anniversary. Thanks to Lorraine for all that she did to
make our wedding night special. Alyssa and Ben
I came in
search of a place where I could be still and nourish my body and
soul. I found that place in this room specifically and the Inn
generally. The comfortable couch invited me to sit and the
expansive window encouraged me to open my mind. This special
room enabled me to as Emily Dickinson put it “dwell impossibility. From a place of warmth and safety. I will always
cherish my memories of my first spiritual retreat at the Bear
Mountain Inn. Finally I would be remiss if I did not mention the
kindness and generosity of Lorraine and Rickie. The welcomed me
into their Inn and made me feel like an old friend, but also
respected my need for privacy and solitude…for those things and
much more, I am grateful. Be Well Carolyn PS I will be
back for those golf lessons when the weather warms.
Ladybugs
trek across a twilight blue window that a full moon shines
through. We came here and found the beauty in love and nature,
the magical, well ordered ambiance created by Lorraine and
company and the natural curiosity and affection for her sweet
menagerie of four legged ones. We wished upon a first star in the
same twilight window but our wish had already come true. We came
to Bear Mountain Inn as lovers and left as promised life partners. Alan and Julie
We are here
for a couple days of our honeymoon and it is definitely THE
HIGHLIGHT. Since we were the only guests and all the restaurants
around aren’t open Lorraine med us a FABULOUS Lobster dinner. We
love every part of the Great Grizzly from the Jacuzzi to the
fireplace to the view. The presentation of everything was GREAT.
We are planning to come back next year in the fall. Great job
Lorraine Peace and God Bless Derek and Kristy
This room,
this view, this place is like a mind message. Relaxing and
therapeutic. We highly recommend the Hawk Mountain Hike. Hike
around sunset and get there early. Navigating a canoe around
Bear Lake, an afternoon nap on the deck listening to the birds,
Go see Auger falls on Route 26 in Bethel . It is worth the
explorations. Thank you for a wonderful Honeymoon. Lisa and Wade
This Inn,
this room, and all the places and ideas that surround it
initially made me feel that I was in a dream. Quickly I realized
that I was, for once, in my natural state feeling as the most
basic part of me does feel. No extra noise, no unimportant
distractions. We listen to the silence through the snow and even
had a delightful moment realizing that we truly had nothing to
do. But this is not a dream, not even an idealistic reality.
This is a rediscovery of true self to carry with us, living out
the daily kayos of our lives which we really do love. In
reference to our previous entry, time is but a perception. It is
a self imposed limitation that need not be realized. Here we
have but each other, So we return to our jobs, our normal
existence, holding fast to what we gained here. A new revival of
an old idea…our lives are what we perceive. The window we look
out on the world through has been cleaned, and the clarity this
creates benefits the view from either side.

Valentines
Day number two for us in the Great Grizzly. It keeps getting
better. Eat everything offered that Lorraine cooks, you will not
be disappointed. Take some time to check out the stars on the
deck. Everything you read about written in this book is true. Enjoy
your turn in this great grizzly room. Stacy and Kevin
Jeff and I
enjoyed our stay in this gorgeous suite. Our daughter Tracy
choose your Inn for her wedding. I know we sort of took over
your place. But we respected all your hard work and loving care
and tried to do like wise. Thank you for a wonderful wedding
experience. To have the entire Inn filled with Tracy and Clays friends and family is a great adventure. Thanks you Lorraine. Lynda and Jeff
